THE ESSENCE OF SOUND DESIGN AT LA PIPA STUDIOS

Recently, some of you have asked us where the unique music in our videos comes from, so we thought it would be nice to provide an overview of what we are doing, and how.

Everything we create at LA PIPA is meticulously crafted with care and dedication in our own studios. Our team combines the timeless charm of analog instruments with the latest innovations in Open-Source digital technology, ensuring that each creation is a unique masterpiece.

The Moog Sound Studio 3 forms the core of our sound production. It is a triumvirate of Moog's most innovative synthesizers, each contributing its unique voice to our compositions.

Moog Sound Studio is a semi-modular synthesizer rig that can be connected to other instruments allowing exploration and design of sound in a new immersive way.

- The Subharmonicon, with its ability to explore polyrhythms and subharmonics, offers a palette of sounds as unpredictable as they are harmonious.

- The DFAM (Drummer From Another Mother) veers into percussive territory, its fully analog engine capable of producing vibrant beats and grooves that pulse with organic life.

- The Mother-32, known for its rich, classic Moog tones, adds melodic and harmonic depth, grounded in the tradition of analog synthesis.

.- The Moog Sub37, a paraphonic analog synthesizer, stands out for its depth and versatility. With its dual oscillators, extensive modulation matrix, and 37-note keyboard, it allows for hands-on control and dynamic expression, making it indispensable for crafting lead lines and intricate bass patterns that demand attention.

MOOG Synthesisers combined with any other instruments, including voice, create the sound of music innovators worldwide. Here Chvrches synthesize their re-imaging of “Wonderland” using a Moog One, Subsequent 37, and DFAM – composing the spontaneous analog arrangement on the spot in the Moog Sound Lab.

- MFB Tanzbär: Rhythmic Precision Meets Analog Warmth. Complementing the melodic and harmonic elements, the MFB Tanzbär drum machine brings the rhythm section to life. Known for its powerful analog sounds the Tanzbär lays down grooves that range from the subtly nuanced to the fiercely driving.

- Eventide Blackhole: Beyond the Bounds of Space. The Blackhole reverb pedal extends our sonic landscapes into the vast expanse of the cosmos. Originally conceived for Eventide's rackmount DSP4000, the Blackhole's ability to create massive reverbs and otherworldly delays has made it a staple in our sound designs.

The Digital Horizon: Bitwig and Renoise

Expanding beyond the analog realm, we embrace the digital frontiers with open-source workstations Bitwig and Renoise. Bitwig Studio's design and emphasis on modulation allow for intricate sound design that integrates seamlessly with our analog gear, bridging the gap between hardware and software. Renoise revives the tracker-based composition method, offering a precise, efficient workflow that complements the textural richness of our analog instruments. This blend of digital workstations enriches our sound design, enabling us to layer the dense, atmospheric textures crafted by our hardware with digital precision and creativity.

LA PIPA Studios Open Source

EULOGIO and REEKO combine Analog Synths with Open Source Digital software such as Bitwig and Renoise, showcasing the best of both worlds in the Post-Digital era.
